Bronze medalist Alex Deibold.

Seems that Olympic bronze medalist Alex Deibold is a member of the family behind New Haven's most famous pizzeria, Frank Pepe Pizzeria Napoletana, and that family members got drawn into the Sochi buzz.

Here's the scoop via Linda Kavanagh of MaxEx Public Relations, and also check out the video of Alex on his win and being congratulated by the Pepe's family from New Haven (below).

Frank Pepe Pizzeria Napoletana, a third-generation owned and operated pizzeria, had an early morning wake-up when they were featured on the Today Show’s Olympic coverage this morning to congratulate family member Alex Deibold, who yesterday, won the bronze medal for snowboardcross. Alex is the nephew of Tony Rosselli, Frank Pepe’s oldest grandson. This morning the entire family gathered at the Pepe’s Pizzeria in New Haven and presented a pizza with the Olympic rings atop Pepe’s world famous Napoletana pizza.
Alex Deibold wasn't among the favorites to win a medal in Tuesday's snowboardcross final, yet he was the only American to advance to the final and the only American with a flag draped around his shoulders as he stood on the podium after his third-place finish, reports USA Today.
Top contenders Nate Holland and Nick Baumgartner, veteran Olympians, both failed to advance out of the 1/8 finals, the first heat held on a cold and rainy morning in the Rosa Khutor Extreme Park. France's Pierre Vaultier won gold, and Russia's Nikolay Olyunin won silver. American Trevor Jacob, 20, finished ninth after riding most of his last two runs after hearing what he described as a pop in his ankle. He believes the ligaments are torn.
But even missing the finals didn't ruin the day for those three Americans, as they dogpiled on Deibold after the 27-year-old Branford, Conn., native slid across the finish line in third place. His teammates understood just what Deibold had endured to even make the Olympic team, let alone find his way upon the podium. Deibold truly was the underdog among them.
