The professional ballet company will perform "Danza! A Celebration of Latin Choreographers" at free shows in Hartford, Westport, Middletown, Danbury and West Hartford.

The show features contemporary and classical works from a collection of talented choreographers, including Rodney Rivera, Daniel Fetecua-Soto, Marcos Vedoveto and Alberto Alonzo. Each piece draws from the choreographers’ country of origin (Puerto Rico, Columbia, Brazil and Cuba respectively) and their personal experiences.

Three of the pieces are world premieres and the Alonso piece is a revival of a duet called “Carmen Suite,” (pictured right), which he created for the Bolshoi Ballet’s Maya Plisetskaya.

The company will perform this Saturday at Riverfront Recapture, held at Mortensen Riverfront Plaza in Hartford. The show will begin at 7:30 p.m. with opening act dancEnlight, a modern dance company based in Hartford.

Attendees are invited to bring picnics to enjoy during the show, though alcohol is not allowed. Should the weather be inclement, the performance will be rescheduled for the following day, Sunday, July 20.

Two out-of-state dates will take the company to Yonkers and Tannersville, New York in early August.
