'Dinotopia: The Fantastical Art of James Gurney' Makes Stamford 'A Land Apart'

Best known for The New York Times bestselling fantasy series Dinotopia—a utopian island where humans and dinosaurs coexist—artist and author James Gurney created a fantastical world rendered in realistic detail for readers. He published the first novel, Dinotopia: A Land Apart from Time, in 1992 and followed it with three more installments. He also invited other artists to explore the world, creating their own stories with their own characters.  Gurney’s original Dinotopia oil paintings will be on display at the Stamford Museum through May 25, and he will work with aspiring artists in a fantasy drawing workshop, “How to Paint What Doesn’t Exist” on March 1.  When did you become interested in art?
