Vineyard Vines Rides Again

Vineyard Vines Rides Again

Connecticut-grown Vineyard Vines is the official style at Churchill Downs again this year for the Kentucky Derby. The Run for the Roses takes place this Saturday, May 4.

The vineyard vines® for Kentucky Derby collection includes shirts, ties and belts for guys, and dresses, tops, scarves and hats for women in prints named “Win, Place, Show,” “Mint Julep” and “Run for the Roses.” The line's available at Vineyard Vines shops in Westport and Greenwich, as well as at select department stores nationwide, through the official Kentucky Derby online store and at vineyardvines.com.

But the company's mark on the storied horse race goes beyond fashion. On Derby Day, Vineyard Vines will again wrap the tractors that groom the racetrack between races in the brand’s signature patchwork prints, host the second annual “Whalestock,” featuring Nashville-based acoustic artists, and sponsor the star-studded Barnstable Brown party the night before the Derby.

The prepped-out casual-wear company was started in 2000 by Greenwich brothers Shep and Ian Murray, who started out selling their ties door to door. Today, the company has more than 30 retail stores across the country, and is also sold in over 600 boutiques and department stores. A pretty amazing Connecticut success story.

We featured the Vineyard Vines phenomenon on our cover in January 2011.
