They’ll be together forever, their afterlife mirroring the way sisters Madisyn Aniyah Mitchell and Sade Auriel Brantley treated all of their days leading up to last Friday’s tragic airplane crash in East Haven.

The sisters were laid to rest exactly one week after the accident claimed their lives, their stirring funeral at the New Trinity Temple drawing hundreds of friends and family members.

Madisyn, a little more than a year old, now shares a coffin with Sade, 13, resting in her big sister’s arms as Friday’s open viewing showed the two of them sharing an eternal embrace.

East Haven’s first responders lined the aisles of the packed church as clergy and family spoke about the lives of the two inseparable sisters. The funeral itself was anything but quiet, as the invocation delivered by evangelist Kim Smith urged the congregation to give thanks to God “even in the midst of all our tears.”

“You have allowed us to be participants in their lives, you could have placed them anywhere but you placed them here,” Smith said.

Bishop James Todd Wilkinson led the crowded church through cheers for East Haven firefighters and police officers and said that while “we cannot replace Sade and Madisyn we can demonstrate our love.”

Copies of their obituaries, handed out at the service, showed just how close the two had become after Madisyn was born on April 29, 2012. At a little over a year old Madisyn already had a favorite cartoon — Mickey Mouse Clubhouse.

“Madisyn’s best friend was none other than her big sister Sade,” the obituary stated.
