Voting for Connecticut's Favorite Town Ends Friday; Westport, Putnam Leading
Editor's note: Voting wrapped at midnight July 25 but you'll have to wait to find out which town won. Going into the home stretch, Westport was in the lead and Putnam was second.
After voting was closed, Visit Connecticut offered the update below on its Facebook page:
Here's our original story:
There is still time to get out the vote.
Voting in Connecticut’s second-annual Still Revolutionary Fan-Favorite Town program is open until midnight on Friday, July 25. The program encourages people to vote for the town that they think most embodies the spirit of the state’s tourism slogan “Connecticut Still Revolutionary.” (Participants can vote on Visit Connecticut’s Facebook page).
The press release for the program says:
“The winning town and destination will receive bragging rights for all of 2014 along with promotional support from Connecticut’s Office of Tourism. For each vote cast, residents and visitors will be entered to win a ZIP to ZEN getaway to Niantic, the 2013 Connecticut still revolutionary Fan-Favorite Town of the Year.”
Though it’s late in the voting process, staff from Visit Connecticut assures us that the top 10 rankings are shifting daily and there is still time to make your vote count. (In fact, Westport overtook Putnam for the lead between Wednesday and Thursday evening.)
The most recent results of the voting made public (pictured above) showed Putnam in the lead followed by Westport, Niantic, Mystic, and New London. The top 10 is rounded out by Torrington, Simsbury, Clinton, Wethersfield, and Willimantic.
Last year’s winner, Niantic, is currently in third place, but the town is campaigning hard in defense of its crown. First Selectman Paul Formica, kicked off the competition with a video and the town recently debuted a music video featuring a song created to showcase why they believe Niantic still deserves to be number one (both videos are embedded below).
Which town do you think deserves the 2014 crown?
