Walk with the Animals at the Beardsley Zoo in Support of Make-A-Wish

Walk with the Animals at the Beardsley Zoo in Support of Make-A-Wish

It’s that time again, when Make-A-Wish Connecticut invites everyone to get some fresh air and walk for a good cause at Connecticut's Beardsley Zoo in Bridgeport.

Their 7th annual Walk for Wishes (this is the third time hosting at the zoo) will take place on May 10. Registration begins at 4:30 p.m. and the walk will begin at 5:30 p.m.

The charity event will be emceed by honorary chairs Anna Zap of Star 99.9, WFSB Reporter Jason Frazer and WFSB Traffic Reporter Nicole Nalepa.

In the past, more than 1,000 volunteers have come out to this non-competitive one-mile walk with the animals. Many of this year’s participants will be wish families who come together to raise money for the Connecticut branch of the Make-A-Wish Foundation.

The foundation grants the wishes of children with life-threatening medical conditions to enrich the human experience with hope, strength and joy. The average cost of a wish is $10,000.

Make-A-Wish Connecticut’s goal is to raise $100,000 at Walk for Wishes. Currently, they’ve collected just over $20,000 of their goal.

“With three weeks to go, there is still a lot of time for people to join up and reach out to their friends and family for support!” says Michael Dominick, Community & Media Relations Manager for Make-A-Wish Connecticut.

You can check their fundraising progress here.

But this year will be even more special because for the first time a child will be surprised by having her wish granted live at the event.

“Experiencing first-hand a wish send-off party for one of our wish kids is a moment we’re all looking forward to in a very exciting way,” says Dominick. “To be a part of such an overwhelming celebration in this young girl’s honor will make her wish experience extra special, not only for her and her family, but for all those who come out to the Walk for Wishes on May 10th. We’ll all be able to share the power of a wish together.”

There will be fun for all ages including food and live entertainment. Registration for the walk gains participants entrance into the zoo, parking and access to the surprise wish celebration.

Those who raise a minimum of $25 will receive a special wish kit that includes items for the celebration. T-shirts will be given to those who raise a minimum of $100.
