Semso Cecunjanin gives customer, Sebby Logiudice, a haircut.

Semso Cecunjanin has joined a dying breed.

Offering classic and modern European-style haircuts, this young entrepreneur, 22, who goes by “Semmy,” is hoping to emulate the classic Italian barber shop.

Dusting off hair snippings from 8-year-old Justin Jaramillo’s neck and face, finishing up a new cut, Cecunjanin is in his element, doing what he loves.

It’s a small place, with a few waiting chairs and two stylist chairs in front of large mirrors, where Cecunjanin feels most at home.

This Cromwell resident opened Semmy’s Barber Shop in the beginning of June, offering $10 haircuts for first-time customers at his 125 Washington St. location, a space formerly occupied by the beauty salon Stylez & Filez.

“Out of high school, I didn’t know what to do,” Cecunjanin said. “I tried a lot of stuff. I finally went to school in Bridgeport at Al’s Millennium Hair Academy.”

After school, Cecunjanin worked in Manchester, training under a traditional Italian barber there before deciding to open up his own place.

“It’s a new experience,” Cecunjanin said. “There’s a lot more responsibility being a business owner.”

Owning a business isn’t a completely new thing to Cecunjanin and his family. Originally from Albania, the family owns Fiore’s Restaurant at 332 Main St.

“I’m a first-generation living here,” Cecunjanin said who along with his brother, was born in the United States to Albanian parents.

Since his opening, Cecunjanin said he’s done well, especially since people are beginning to know that he’s there.
