A mother-and-daughter team has launched a new café and patisserie along Bank Street, the most happening little street in the center of New Milford, home to salons, specialty shops, other restaurants and even an independent bookstore.

Lady Grey Gourmet Café and Sweetsarah opened Saturday at 21 Bank St., around the corner from the town green, in the premises that formerly housed the vintage shop Vidu Micia.

The business is owned by Gina Cambigue of Woodbury and daughter Sarah Moraes Oliveira of New Milford, who were born and raised in Brazil.

“Sarah is the pasty maker, and her mother is the cook for the café,” said Courtney Olsen of New Milford, the chief financial officer of the business, registered as Lady Grey Gourmet Café & Sweet Sarah Artisan Confectionery & Patisserie LLC.

“Brazil has a rich pasty tradition, and there is a lot of French influence in Brazilian food,” said Ms. Oliveira, who noted that she and her both are self-taught cooks.

Referring to why she and her mother chose to establish a location in town, she said, “Bank Street is the perfect little street. We were looking for a European-style location, and we looked in Milford and Ridgefield before we decided to come here. This building is perfect for us.”
