Writers Helping Writers
One of the most gratifying missions in life is the discovery of young talent - and then nurturing it and watching it grow.
For 15 years, doing just that has been the driving force behind the Connecticut Young Writers Trust, the state's longest-running literary competition for teens. Over that time, the Trust has given more than $200,000 in prize money to winners of a statewide writing competition.
Now the Trust is asking those of us with an interest in its mission to attend a very special cocktail hour this Friday evening at the Hartford Club, an intimate gathering where two of Connecticut's finest writers - Wally Lamb and Marilyn Nelson - will be the guests. The event offers the chance for fans of the writers to get books signed and photos taken, or just have a conversation with a favorite author in a friendly setting - while supporting a wonderful cause.
Tickets for the reception, which begins at 6 p.m., are $100, tax-deductible, and seats are limited. A public performance and conversation with the writers begins at 7, with a suggested minimum donation of $10.
