In my time here at Connecticut Magazine, I've made no bones about my fondness for barbecue. So when Mohegan Sun announced the line up for their annual BBQ Fest this weekend, June 1-3, of course I finagled myself a press invite!
It looks a pretty fun-packed weekend of events in the Winter Parking Lot, hosted by Michael Petit of NESN's "Grillseekers," including live music, ongoing cooking demonstrations, a rib-eating contest and of course, opportunities to sample best barbecue around.
Among the highlights:
Friday, June 1 (2 p.m. - 10 p.m.)
The Jay Dempsey Band provides a sizzlin' start, followed by DJ Chef (who will, in fact, spin music and cook), "Grilling for the Girls" with Lee Ann Whippen and a performance by Sister Sparrow and the Dirty Birds.
Saturday, June 2 (10 a.m. - 10 p.m.)
The big event of the day is the rib-eating contest featuring competitive eating champ Joey Chestnut. There will also by music from Mammoth Jack and Sugar, and fireworks spectacular to cap off the night.
Sunday, June 3 (10 a.m. - 6 p.m.)
Things will heat up with the Championship BBQ Throwdown, which will pit Mike Davis against Lee Ann Whippen, and then cool off with blues master Robert Cray.
Tickets are $30, and include 8 food tickets; kids under 10 are free.
Hope to see you out there!
