Artisan: Love at First Bite

Southport has loved Artisan from the minute it opened at the Delamar Hotel this summer. It’s beautiful, understatedly elegant, and “as comfortable as a weekend in the country,” to quote executive chef Frederic Kieffer, who’s created an enthusiastic American farm-to-table menu to match. Think hard-shell clams with a ginger mignonette, Berkshire pork chop with hard cider jus, Rhode Island fluke with parsnip purée. There’s a tavern menu as well—dry-aged beef sliders, charcuterie, chicken skewers a la plancha, lemon donuts with honey for dessert. With comfortable prices and a bar open till the wee hours, Artisan is at home in historic Southport and in step with today. (203/307-4222, artisansouthport.com)
