Celebrating Connecticut Farms

The Celebration of Connecticut Farms event on Sunday at Jones Family Farm, in Shelton, could not have been lovelier. The turnout was great, the weather perfect, and all (if only for a few hours) seemed right with the world. And why not? An event like this just naturally attracts a pretty cool group of people—people who care enough about preserving Connecticut farms to actually come out and support the important work of the Connecticut Farmland Trust

And that goes double for the dozens of restaurants who provided food for the hungry hordes: Bricco Trattoria in Glastonbury, Caseus Fromagerie and Zinc (New Haven), Metro Bis (Simsbury), Tacuba Taco Bar (Branford), The Dressing Room (Westport), Community Table (Washington Depot), La Tavola (Waterbury), Miya’s Sushi (New Haven), Max Downtown and ON20 (Hartford), among others. It was also a fine showcase for lots of wineries, breweries, caterers—and farms.

Along with plenty of good things to eat and drink, there was live music by rock/blues band Bone Dry throughout and presentations by honorary chairpersons Faith Middleton (WNPR), renowned chef/cookbook author Jacques Pépin (who gave a touching remembrance of friends he lost at Windows on the World on 9/11) and, adding a touch of glam, actress Christine Baranski.

A good time was had by all! Come out and join the fun next year.
