All Hail AD Bistro

Debra Ponzek is well-known (and loved) in Fairfield County for the array of delectable gourmet goodies, exquisite cakes and pastry items she creates for her Aux Délices take-out shops—and now there’s a brand-new one in Westport. But the big news is that, by night Tuesday through Saturday, the new place morphs into AD Bistro, her first full-service restaurant.

Sure, it’s lovely to pick up Ponzek’s insanely delicious fare to take home—but it’s nice indeed to have the option now to plop down on a comfy banquette and eat out (no dishes to wash!). The short, but well-edited menu includes anything-but-same-old-same-old enticements such as Poached Organic Egg, with edamame, merguez sausage and thyme; Late Summer Tomato Fritter with Robiola cheese; Snapper au Pistou, with leeks and zucchini; Grilled Lamb Sirloin with Baba Ghanoush; and Chicken Montrachet Chicken, with mashed potatoes, red wine marjoram sauce and English peas.

That last dish is a reference to the late, great Montrachet Restaurant in New York, where Ponzek presided over the top-rated kitchen for a seven-year stint as executive chef. Shortly after that, she moved to Connecticut and opened her first Aux Délices in Riverside in 1995, followed by two more, in downtown Greenwich (2000) and Darien (2004). She and her husband, Greg Addonizio, also run a thriving catering business, Aux Délices Events, out of the large commercial kitchen they built in Stamford, and offer adult and children’s cooking classes there as well.

Tuesday through Saturday, 6 to 9. AD Bistro, 1035 Post Rd. E., Westport, 203/557-9600, auxdelicesfoods.com.
