Foot Stompin' Fun at the Levitt

Let’s face it: Summer’s almost over. The days are getting shorter, the kids are going back to school . . . but wait, we’re not ready! What’s needed is some good ol’ foot-stompin’ fun. And there’s plenty to be had at the Fifth Annual Blues, Views & BBQ Festival this weekend at Westport’s Levitt Pavilion.

The popular two-day event, which takes place on the banks of the Saugatuck River, just seems to get bigger and better each year.  The music lineup is primo. There 15 acts scheduled over the two days, including Johnny Boots, Roxy Perry, Jeff Pitchell & Texas Flood, Popa Chubby, James Montgomery & Billy Squier and Anders Osborne.

There are two barbecue competitions. The amateur competition, Cookin’ for a Cause, is one of biggest such contests in the northeast—25 teams of backyard chefs will vie in four categories: chicken, pork, chef’s choice and dessert. Proceeds will go to the Westport Women’s Club Food Closet.

There’ll be lots of good eats, of course, and multiple seating areas for chowing down. Choose from ribs, pulled pork and sausage from Bobby Q’s; Caribbean-style chicken and fish from Winnie’s Jerk; and burgers, lobster rolls and roasted corn from Blue Lemon, along with grilled cheese sandwiches, wings, hot dogs, ice cream and kettle corn.  And plenty of libations to wash it all down: hand-crafted beer, premium liquor (Tito’s Vodka, Jim Beam), Newman’s Own Wines, iced teas and lemonade.

There are also vendors, a Melissa & Doug’s Kids’ Corral, chef demos and a pie & rib eating contest.
