Weekend Discovery: Wild Bill's Nostalgia

Looking for vintage toys? How about a rare collectible? Maybe a giant bobbing head? Or what about the world's biggest jack-in-the-box?

May we direct you to Wild Bill's Nostalgia Store in Middletown, home of all these items and much, much more.

In addition to the aforementioned items, this store is a huge and eclectic trove of curious pop culture items, random objects, classic games, magazines and books and all sorts of collectibles. The stock is constantly changing, but can include everything from giant Elvis figurines and nesting dolls to classic movie posters and bobble head dolls.

Speaking of, the world’s “largest bobbing head” (pictured) is a huge reproduction of Bill himself that graces the front of the building. The world’s largest jack-in-the-box is a 50-foot high contraption that has a giant clown head pop out of it once a minute when it's running. (I guess one man’s “world record” is another’s “living nightmare.”) If you're interested in how it came to be, the owner of, Bill Ziegler, had come into possession of a 600-pound clown head that once belonged to Bob Keeshan (aka Captain Kangaroo and Claribel the Clown). Already owning an empty brick silo behind the building, he was approached by artist Chris Hausback who suggested putting the two together (almost like a peanut butter cup, right?). The result is an eye-catching roadside attraction--which goes well with the building itself, as it is festooned with famous characters and colorful signs that look like they came off a carnival midway.

Be prepared: With the vast amount of cool things here, there's no just stopping in quick. You will want to browse, and it is heartily encouraged!
