A Connecticut Caterer Makes the Saveur 100
Chefs and caterers across the state must have been bursting with pride, or green with envy, when they picked up the latest Saveur magazine. The January-February issue features the Saveur 100, the publication’s influential, and gorgeously photographed, annual amalgam of culinary innovations and innovators from around the world. The current crop highlights chefs and recipes, techniques and mouthwatering foods—from rarefied to pushcart—from Brooklyn, Kansas City and L.A. to Istanbul, Santiago and Tokyo. And there, at No. 74, is Thomaston chef and caterer Linda Anctil, enshrined for her blog, playingwithfireandwater.com, for which writer Steven Stern says, “she cooks, photographs, and provides recipes for gorgeous avant-garde dishes. . . . Anctil’s posts sometime provide lessons in the chemistry of flavor; sometimes they are spare and lyrical. But always they are driven by a curiosity that makes even the most radical culinary techniques feel like the natural provenance of home cooking.”
Wow.
Congratulations, Linda—you've made us proud!
