A "Taste of Calabria" in Westbrook

A "Taste of Calabria" in Westbrook

Save the date! On Dec. 1, Chef Enzo Cannata, one of Italy’s four Iron Chefs, will present a cooking demo and a special six-course Calabrese dinner/wine pairing extravaganza at Water’s Edge Resort & Spa in Westbrook.

Vincenzo (“Enzo”) Cannata is considered an expert on the cuisine and wine of his native Calabria region. He earned a master’s degree in culinary arts from the Institute of Alberghiero Calabria Nicotera, and has had a distinguished career as an executive chef for leading dining venues in Italy, Germany, Switzerland and France.

For the Water’s Edge dinner, Chef Cannata promises to seduce your palate with a menu that kicks off with potato-and-octopus veloute with white truffle, and marinated salmon, both antipastos, followed by Colossal Pistachio Encrusted Shrimp, filet mignon with gorgonzola cream and polenta, and more. For dessert: Semifreddo with almonds and hot chocolate.

The dinner came about when Water’s Edge invited Chef Cannata to be a guest of the resort. “Chef Enzo joins a long list of notable individuals who’ve been guests of our hotel since it opened nearly a half-century ago,” says resort General Manager Christopher Barstein. “We’re honored that he'll be lending his very special gastronomic talents that guests of the Water’s Edge and the general public will surely enjoy.”

“Taste of Calabria.” Price: $99 per couple. Reservations are limited. For more information, call 800/222-5901, or visit
