10,000 Maniacs

10,000 Maniacs were and remain, without a doubt, one of the most influential Alternative Pop/Rock bands to have ever released a record on a major label. This is one of the bands you must see and hear live.  Their long list of hits include  “Because the Night”, “These are the Days”, “Jealousy” “Like the Weather”, “More than This” and many, many, more.

The band was founded in the fall of 1981 by Robert Buck, Dennis Drew, Steven Gustafson, John Lombardo and Natalie Merchant. Jerry Augustyniak joined in 1983. Together with artists like R.E.M., they defined college rock and create the first wave of alternative rock bands and what became known as the alternative rock format on FM radio.

Writing and performing powerful, danceable, and socially conscious original material in and around their hometown of Jamestown, NY, the group toured extensively.

In 1987, the Maniacs recorded and released In My Tribe, produced by Peter Asher (who also produced for James Taylor and Linda Ronstadt), this album broke quickly onto the charts and sold over two millions copies. The album features the hit singles, "Don't Talk, Hey Jack Kerouac, Like the Weather and What's the Matter Here." Within months, the band had already appeared on The Tonight Show, Late Night with David Letterman and Saturday Night Live.
