Figure Painting - Hollis Dunlap

This class is designed to make the student more comfortable with painting the figure from life through the repetition of essential principles of color and composition. Its focus will be on creating a strong sense of 3-dimensional forms by looking closely at proportions, edges, light effects, and various methods of paint application. Instructor Hollis Dunlap will encourage a practical use of anatomy, focusing on major anatomical landmarks, allowing students to study the way that master painters model form and make color choices. Various aspects of the human body will be compared to basic geometric shapes to give the painting a convincing sense of form as well as giving the student more confidence in painting complex figurative work. Please visit to view selections of his work.

To register, please contact Hollis directly at (860) 389-5888 or email
