Free opening reception and all-age art workshop:

Thursday, September 12, 6:30-8:00pm

 

The Pelham Art Center is pleased to announce a group exhibition of sculpture and installation by contemporary mid-career artists addressing narratives related to science and technology. Curator Jeffrey Mongrain is an internationally recognized artist and Head of MFA Sculpture at Hunter College in NYC.

Convergency will be on view from September 13 – October 26, 2013 with an opening reception on Thursday, September 12, 6:30-8pm. Admission is free and open to the public. A free all-ages art making workshop related to the exhibition will also be offered during the reception.  Additional FREE public programming will include a panel discussion with the curator and artists on October 19 from 1-3pm in conjunction with a Frankenstein-inspired children’s art workshop, part of a Pelham Reads Frankenstein town-wide celebration.

Artists included in the exhibition are: Dylan Beck, Christie Brown, Chad Curtis, David East, Linda Ganstrom, Arthur Gonzalez, Nicholas Kripal, James Lawton, Steven Montgomery, Judy Moonelis, Sana Musasama, Matt Nolen, Denise Pelletier, Benji Schulman, Virginia Scotchie, Bobby Silverman, Neil Tetkowski, Adam Welch, and Susan York.

Join one of our artist-educators and construct a three dimensional project that explores science and technology.

 

Gallery Conversations. FREE.

September 18, 6-7pm- Note New Time & Date

Satisfy your curiosity! All are invited, regardless of experience, to tour and discuss the exhibition, Convergency, with the Gallery and Public Program Manager. This conversation will focus on 3-4 sculptures to encourage an in-depth and interactive look at the work.

 

Panel Discussion and Pelham Reads Frankenstein children’s art workshop. FREE.

October 19, 1-3pm

Join curator Jeffrey Mongrain and invited artists, critics and writers in a critical discussion of the current exhibition, Convergency. Running simultaneously, a hands-on art workshop for children inspired by Mary Shelley’s Frankenstein. 

 

Pelham Reads Frankenstein!

A town-wide celebration of the Frankenstein tale through literature, art and film in October and November will relate to key elements in Convergency.  TBA: related art-making workshops, talks and film viewing at the Pelham Art Center, Pelham Public Library and The Picture House.
