Rockwell Art Galleries in Ridgefield features artists Amber Maida from Naugatuck and California, Shelby Head from Madison, and Elisa Keogh from Norwalk from August 9 – October 27. The public is invited to an opening reception on Thursday August 23rd from 5:30-7:30pm. The event is free and open to the public. Rockwell Art and Framing of Ridgefield is located at 470 Main Street, Ridgefield, CT 06877. Phone 203-894-8000.

Amber Maida’s paintings are internationally collected and represented by galleries throughout the US, Canada, and the UK. She has been featured at the White Space in New Haven, Station Gallery NYC, AIRS New Haven, The Housatonic Museum of Art in Bridgeport, The Silvermine Guild of Art in New Canaan, and The Gallery at Black Rock now known as Gallery 305K in Bridgeport.

Her mixed media paintings involve a tactile counter-environment that expresses myth and uncovers the mystery hidden within reality. She juxtaposes dualities - fragility/strength, ancient/contemporary, external/internal - to exploit a tension where balance and meaning collide to form a coherent inner vision.

Her materials are carefully chosen and strongly symbolic. Her work contains recurring motifs and materials including golden labyrinths, fluid backdrops, crackled textures, vintage books, silks, feathers, eggshells, and line drawings of suspended worlds. Her intent is for the images to take viewers deeper within their own realm of realization.

Shelby Head studied sculpture at Pratt Institute in the MFA program. She has extensive experience working as a professional mold maker and wax technician for several art foundries in New Mexico and for sculptor Tom Otterness in New York City. She built models and supervised model makers for stop motion animation television commercials and music videos during the 1980’s. In 1994, Head began working as a professional sculptor. She has exhibited widely and is represented in numerous private and corporate collections.

Elisa Keogh is an award-winning artist and designer who currently works with photography and encaustic mediums.

Born in England and raised in Belfast, Northern Ireland during the height of political unrest, Keogh explored many different art forms as a student. At 19, she came to the United States and studied photography and graphic design at The School of Visual Arts and Parsons School of Design. Keogh enjoyed a successful career in graphic design in NYC; starting out as a layout artist with the corporate design firm Hershell George Graphics and later accepting a position with Arista Records as Studio Manager where she oversaw the production of all artwork for the label. She was subsequently promoted to Art Director for the label where she worked with many talented musicians. Her cover design for Annie Lenox’s Diva album was nominated for a Grammy in 1993, and poster design for the alternative rock band The San Francisco Seals was placed in the permanent design collection of the Cooper Hewitt Museum in New York.

Since 2005, Keogh has devoted herself to her fine art, developing and exhibiting her experimental photographs and more recently, her encaustic paintings. Her works have been featured throughout Connecticut at venues including the Silvermine Guild of Artists (New Canaan), the Housatonic Museum of Art (Bridgeport), the Westport Arts Center (Westport), the Ridgefield Guild of Artists (Ridgefield), SPAG (Norwalk), 22 Haviland Street Gallery (Norwalk), the Rowayton Arts Center (Norwalk) and the Carriage Barn Art Center (New Canaan). She lives and maintains her studio in Norwalk, CT.
