Katie Fong to Have Trunk Show at Richards in Greenwich
Katie Fong’s love affair with beautiful clothing began when she was child of 6 hanging out at her grandparents’ dry cleaning business in Greenwich; she'd spend hours drawing pictures of the exquisite evening gowns she saw there. Now, at 23, after attending the Fashion Institute of Technology in Manhattan and doing a three-year apprenticeship at Oscar de la Renta, she’s got a studio in New York and a blossoming fashion career.
But don’t take our word for it. You can see for yourself this Friday and Saturday at Richards in Greenwich. Fong’s having a trunk show, her third at the high-end retailer, this one showcasing her spring line of special-occasion and bridal bespoke designs. “It’s all about catering to the customer’s needs,” she says.
The spring Katie Fong Collection exemplifies her trademarked “passion for the simply beautiful.” It’s all laces, silks, embroidery and luxe novelty fabrics—mostly in white, black, and shades of pewter and taupe—inspired by bridal and lingerie, she says. “I design for the woman who enjoys the luxury and details of beautifully made clothing and timeless elegance.”
At Destinationwedding.com, wedding pro Lisa Light had this to say about “remarkable designer” Fong: “Her designs are romantic, sophisticated and luxurious, incorporating fine fabrics, quality laces and unique embroidery with techniques and detailing typically associated with haute couture. She has pieces that would appeal to sophisticated brides looking for something elegant, as well as formore mature brides who may not want a traditional ball gown but one that is romantic and sexy.”
Light also points out that Fong is a supporter of the “Made in the USA” movement; the Katie Fong Collection is made in New York City.
The trunk shows run from 10 to 5 Friday and Saturday, Jan. 24 & 25; appointments suggested but not essential. Email Katie at firstname.lastname@example.org.
