| David Eisenberg ● 37 ● West Hartford When he came to Connecticut, Dr. David Eisenberg had a single focus: to help vanquish cancer. Now, less than two years later, the surgical oncologist—who trained at NYU, Mount Sinai, Memorial Sloan-Kettering and the University of Pittsburgh—is closer to that goal, having treated hundreds of patients with cancers of the breast, colon, skin and pancreas. A true innovator, he’s the first Hartford Hospital doctor to have performed a successful partial pancreatectomy (an unusual and complex procedure) robotically and is now training others and developing a curriculum for a robotic cancer program. |
![]() | Christine Stuart ● 33 ● Windsor Stuart, editor-in-chief of CTNewsJunkie.com, saw the evolution of the Internet as an opportunity to deliver news in new and interesting ways. She purchased the site in March 2006 from its founder, Dan Levine, and began reporting on state government and politics. Since then, the site’s traffic has risen from a few hundred visits to a monthly average of about 100,000, and advertisers have come on board. Stuart and her contributors have become known for breaking news first and using not only words, but also video, photos and audio, to report a story. Thanks to her, CTNewsJunkie.com has become a staple in Connecticut’s daily news diet. |
| Karen M. Scinto ● 39 ● Trumbull A key member of Bridgeport’s St. Vincent’s Medical Center team and director of pharmacy services since 2005, Karen M. Scinto, Pharm.D., has turned her department around—reducing staff turnover, introducing bar-coding and robot dispensing, and developing and mentoring staff. Active as well in community outreach, she organized the first Safe and Sound event, co-sponsored by the hospital and Aquarion Water Co., to collect outdated medications, and was the driving force behind the new Dispensary of Hope, which works to provide free medications to the needy in the community. |
