DR. TARIK KARDESTUNCER is a fourth-generation Connecticut Yankee. He earned his B.A. from UConn in his native Storrs and medical degree from the UConn School of Medicine, where he completed his orthopedics residency. He did a fellowship at Harvard Medical School in hand and upper extremity surgery. “Some of the grandfathers of hand surgery were there” at Massachusetts General, Brigham & Women’s and Boston Children’s hospitals, he says, with training that “was unparalleled in other programs” for treating trauma, arthritis and congenital anomalies. Additionally, he holds a Certificate of Added Qualifications in Hand Surgery.
Board-certified, Dr. Kardestuncer believes that the hand, wrist and elbow make up “the most complex and challenging subspecialty in orthopedics because the anatomy is so intricate and delicate.” As a result, there are few subspecialists in this area, especially in elbow treatment. While based in North Franklin, he works closely with colleagues in Boston when treating extraordinarily complex or unusual cases.
