DR. GARY GRIPPO was studying music at Rutgers when a foot injury forced him to consult various doctors. After a sports podiatrist treated him successfully, he turned to biology and premed, earning his degree from the New York College of Podiatric Medicine and later training at the West Haven VAMC, Yale and the Hospital of Saint Raphael. With a reputation as an excellent diagnostician and surgeon, he specializes in forefoot surgery of bunions, hammertoes and neuromas. “My results in surgical correction of common foot deformities are second to none,” he says. “Most people have very little postoperative discomfort and resume full activities much sooner than expected.”
Dr. Grippo also treats advanced cases of foot and ankle problems without surgery, including shock-wave therapy for heel pain and sclerotherapy for chronic nerve pain. “I try to treat all my patients from a sports-medicine standpoint,” he says. “The primary goal is to get back into the game.”
