Dr. Michael J. Kaplan ’s face is a familiar one to Connecticut sports fans. As the senior medical correspondent for Bristol-based ESPN, it’s his job to explain the cause and severity of professional athletes’ injuries, as well as their impact, to a national audience. His insightful commentary is featured on air several times a week. During the 20-week National Football League season, he is a regular on the network’s “Sports Center” and “NFL Countdown” shows. His patients at his Middlebury practice, Active Orthopaedics, and his new Greenwich site, know him on a more personal level. There, he is the doctor who skillfully explains and treats their knee and shoulder injuries. His patients range from those serious athletes he discusses on TV to everyday folks whose knee and shoulder pain may have developed from their playing as casual “weekend warriors,” or simply living their lives. “They usually come to me in pain, which affects the quality of their lives,” Dr. Kaplan says. “The goal of our practice is to restore their functional capacity with the care and attention they deserve.” Dr. Kaplan is a Brown University graduate who earned his medical degree at the University of Vermont College of Medicine. He was fellowship-trained by Dr. James Andrews at the world-renowned American Sports Medicine Institute in Birmingham, Ala., and was a physician for the National Football League for two years. In private practice, his treatment expertise is in the areas of partial- and full-knee replacement, as well as cartilage repair. His shoulder expertise is in rotator cuff problems and shoulder outlet impingement. He treats patients at Waterbury Hospital, and also has privileges at Saint Mary’s Hospital in Waterbury, the Hospital of Saint Raphael and Stamford Hospital. He has been a clinical instructor at the Yale University School of Medicine Department of Orthopaedics for 17 years. Known as an authority in his field, he lectures frequently throughout the state and country, and continues to chair the Connecticut State Orthopaedic Society academic meeting.

I'm glad to see no. 7 is Dr Cohen. In my opinion he's no 1 but I have no way of judging the top 6. He operated on me in 2001 because I was high risk of getting colon cancer it was felt. I'm still here 11 years later doc! I'm fine w/respect to the surgery but do have an issue with a lumbar bone out of place and am dealing w/that now. Things are much better since I had the two Epidural shots. I get the third tommorow. You go Dr. Cohen! EDITOR'S NOTE: Doctors are listed in alphabetical order.

I had a breast reduction last year, Dr. Smith performed the surgery. I am so happy with the results he is a great physician and surgeon he takes the extra time to ask you what your expectations are and is also very open about what to expect after surgery.

Dr. Gary Price has gone above and beyond his call of duty . I have had several procedures done by him and wouldn't think of going to anyone else. He has done a complete face lift on me. Several laser treatments and a couple of touch up mini lifts. I'm considering having liposuction by him. If anyone out there is considering cosmetic work done you should definitely have a consultation with Gary Price. A grateful and satisfied patient

Dr Gerstenhaber is the BEST Pulmonary Doctor in the New Haven area. He is extremely smart and knows more than his specialty. He is kind and compassionate and has a wonderful way of appropriately infusing humor into what can be a tense situation... I commend him for his tremendous work ethic and feel so grateful that he cared for each of my parents and now myself. I can only say thank you for always being so available to us.

Dr. Neil Floch and the staff of Fairfield County Bariatrics have afforded me a second chance for a more active and healthier life. In June of 2011 at 68 yrs old Dr. Neil performed RNY Gastric Bypass at Norwalk Hospital and as of 10 mos post op I have lost 102 lbs and gain a second chance to enjoy life more fully. I left the hospital completely offm of the three type 2 diabetes meds I had been on for 12+ years. I wholeheartedly recommend Dr. Floch and Fairfield County Bariatrics and fully endorse the excellent level of care that I experienced both pre and post op and would urge anyone considering wls to them.
