DR. JAMES MAZZARA treats traumatic and degenerative conditions of the upper extremities and knees. He received a B.S. in biology from NYU and his M.D. from New York Medical College. He completed an internship at St. Luke’s-Roosevelt Medical Center and residencies in both general and orthopedic surgery there. He did a fellowship in orthopedic research at New York’s Hospital for Joint Diseases Orthopaedic Institute.
He has been performing shoulder surgery for 20 years and finds it challenging, yet gratifying, to be able to relieve pain and restore function and quality of life for patients suffering from shoulder trauma, torn rotator cuffs or arthritic conditions. There have been “great changes in shoulder-implant technology,” he says. “New orthopedic devices allow us to repair tendons through small incisions and to restore motion and relieve pain that we could not fix just a few years ago. While advances in technology are great, its application has to make sense and work with how our bodies heal.”
