DR. YORK PAUL MOY, a board-certified expert in urology, practices at Urology Specialists, PC in Middlebury, Southbury and Meriden. Dr. Moy approaches the practice of urology with an emphasis on compassionate patient education and treatments. His special interest is in treating cancers of the kidney, prostate and bladder, using the latest minimally invasive techniques, including robotic surgery. He performs no-needle, no-scalpel vasectomies, and also treats a great deal of kidney stone disease, sexual dysfunction, male infertility and incontinence.
“When I see a patient, I pride myself in taking the time to explain their cancer, incontinence or stone disease,” he says. “I want them to leave the office feeling they got attentive treatment as well as education about their problems.” Dr. Moy also tries to empower his patients to make lifestyle changes that can help them prevent disease. This is particularly important in those of his patients with stone disease, where recurrence is common. “With them,” he explains, “it is about teaching the importance of taking water breaks and making lifestyle changes that can reduce the chance of recurrence.”
Noting the enormous changes that have taken place in urology, which have included the extensive use of robotics in cancer surgery, Dr. Moy says that he is excited to be part of the evolution of urology at this time. The use of robotics has allowed us to realize the goals of preserving urologic function and improving patient outcomes. In particular, these new techniques reduce the likelihood of patients experiencing erectile dysfunction and incontinence after prostate surgery. The robot can also be used for partial removal of the kidney and kidney reconstructive surgery.
Dr. Moy graduated from Yale University and the Yale School of Medicine, where he also completed his surgery and urology residencies. At Yale, he received special recognition for excellence in urology, winning a Pfizer Urology Scholars Award. He also completed a National Institutes of Health-sponsored oncology research fellowship.
