DR. BROOK M. SEELEY of the Connecticut Ear, Nose & Throat Associates, PC, and Connecticut Facial Plastic Surgery, has seen a shift in his field toward more specialization. “In the past, the specialty may have been ear, nose and throat,” he says. “Within that discipline, there are specialists who focus on subspecialties, such as the ears or voice.” Dr. Seeley has taken this path: After completing his otolaryngology training at the prestigious Cleveland Clinic Foundation, he completed fellowships at the University of California, San Francisco in both facial plastic surgery and hair restoration surgery. His practice focuses on sinus and nasal problems, functional and cosmetic nasal surgery, and procedures for rejuvenating the aging face.
The way Dr. Seeley delivers his care to patients with those concerns is of utmost importance to him: “With my patients, I adhere to the philosophy of treating each of them the way I would like to be treated,” he says. He recalls that one of his medical school deans once told him that he should always be willing to spend the extra time with patients. “If I listen well to my patients, they really do tell me exactly what’s wrong with them,” he says. Dr. Seeley is also finding that today’s patients are more educated about medical and cosmetic issues, and that they come to him with more information and more questions than they did in the past. “I think it’s a positive that they come in with questions; that shows that they are taking a more active role in their health care. It’s gratifying for me to work with patients who take the initiative. There are so many exciting new procedures these days, I spend a great deal of time guiding patients in their decisions.”
In working with patients in that manner, Dr. Seeley emphasizes that “the greatest measure of satisfaction we feel is that they are so willing to recommend our services to their families and friends.”
