Connecticut Man Charged With Threatening Life of Gov. Dannel Malloy
On social media, David C. Ragozzine touts himself as an ardent proponent of free speech.
A regular contributor to the comments section on The Register Citizen’s website, Ragozzine says thisabout himself on his Disqus profile, the newspaper’s commenting platform: “Political correctness is the biggest threat to society. I will call a spade and spade, and if you are offended, tough.”
Suffice it to say, State Police were offended by a post the 23-year-old Ragozzine apparently proffered Thursday on Facebook. In it, Ragozzine, a gun enthusiast who had the weaponry to carry out an attack, made a veiled threat against the life of Gov. Dannel P. Malloy, saying he needs to be “taken out.”
The threat was relayed via fax to the governor’s security team and faxed over to the Central District Major Crime Squad.
“If you really want to save your state and country, you will become disobedient and do God’s work to save this nation,” Ragozzine allegedly wrote. “We need violence, [sic] we need to take out the scumbags. Locally, Malloy needs to be taken out. He must pay in blood for the crimes he has committed against this country, this state, and the constitution, [sic]. Our founders and the first 111% wouldn’t have let him last one day in office.”
Ragozzine, of 17 Mountain View Terrace, Apt. 3, in Winchester, was arraigned Friday in Superior Court on charges of inciting injury to a person or property, a Class C felony, and second-degree threatening.
Ragozzine, the owner of an online company, BuildAPrep, which sells survival products and kits for those preparing for disasters, posted a $20,000 surety bond after appearing before Judge Richard Marano. He is ordered not to possess any weapons, not to use computers and to have no contact with Malloy or representatives of the governor’s office.
An anonymous tip to Crime Stoppers led to the arrest. Trooper Andrew Kaprenya accessed the page, reportedly belonging to Ragozzine and saw the post.
