\n\n • John Mackey’s Asphalt Cocktail aims to capture the grit and aggression associate d with living in New York City. Says the composer: “Picture the scariest N YC taxi ride you can imagine\, with the cab skidding around turns as truck s bear down from all sides. Serve on the rocks.”

\n • Viet Cuong’s Sound and Smoke was insp ired by a line from Goethe’s play Faust\, which equates words to “mere sou nd and smoke\,” and declares that “feeling is everything.” In two movement s\, the composer attempts to translate these “feelings” into music.
\n< p class='p2'>\n \n\n • Richard Wagner composed Tr auersinfonie to accompany fellow German composer Carl Maria von We ber’s ashes to their final resting place in 1844. Wagner’s solemn\, yet st irring\, composition pays homage to Weber through his use of themes from W eber’s opera Euryanthe.
