\n 10\,000 Maniacs were and remain\, without a doubt\, one o f the most influential Alternative Pop/Rock bands to have ever released a record on a major label. \n\n The band was founded in the fall of 1981
by Robert Buck\, Dennis Drew\, Steven Gustafson\, John Lombardo and Natal
ie Merchant. Jerry Augustyniak joined in 1983. Together with artists like
R.E.M.\, they defined college rock and create the first wave of alternativ
e rock bands and what became known as the alternative rock format on FM ra
dio.

\n Writing and performing powerful\, danceable\, and so
cially conscious original material in and around their hometown of Jamesto
wn\, NY\, the group toured extensively.

\n In 1987\, the Man
iacs recorded and released In My Tribe\, produced by Peter Asher (who also
produced for James Taylor and Linda Ronstadt)\, this album broke quickly
onto the charts and sold over two millions copies. The album features the
hit singles\, "\;Don'\;t Talk\, Hey Jack Kerouac\, Like the Weather
and What'\;s the Matter Here."\; Within months\, the band had alre
ady appeared on The Tonight Show\, Late Night with David Letterman and Sat
urday Night Live.
