\n Award-winning painter and illustrator Jack Montmeat has d esigned this course for both beginners and experienced artists interested in refreshing and honing their skills. Students may choose to work from a live portrait model or a still life set-up – or a combination of both thro ughout the class! Those working from the portrait model will enjoy a 3-hou r pose each week\, and concepts covered will include placement of the subj ect on the page\, proportions\, likeness\, clothing\, lighting\, line qual ity and basic anatomy\, as well as discussions on drawing each feature of the face. Students may also work from still life set-ups with instruction in light\, shadows\, drapery and perspective. Handouts will be given each week to illustrate key concepts\, and Jack will include demonstrations\, g entle guidance\, and individual attention during each class. All levels ar e welcome. \n\n Instructor Bio: Jack Montm eat is an award-winning local portrait painter and illustrator with a stud io in East Lyme\, CT. Jack grew up in Old Lyme\, and began taking classes at the Lyme Academy College of Fine Arts as a teenager. After receiving hi s BFA from the Columbus College of Art and Design in Columbus\, Ohio in 20 02\, as well as studying in Paris and Florence\, he began painting portrai ts full-time. Jack has received many awards for his portraiture\, includin g winning first place in the Connecticut Society of Portrait Artists 'Face s of Spring 2007' exhibition which was juried by renowned portrait artist Aaron Shikler. Jack is a three time recipient of the Elizabeth Greenshield s Foundation Grant. He also recently received a Stobart Fellowship which e nabled him to study independently in the museums of Paris. Jack has been t eaching drawing and painting as well as monitoring at the Lyme Art Associa tion since 2002. Jack is also an illustrator for Major League Baseball.
