DESCRIPTION:<p>\n	This “Time Stands Still” concert will feature the U.S. pr
 emiere of the London-based choral group Vocal Constructivists\, directed b
 y Jane Alden\, alongside Wesleyan students in the Toneburst Laptop & Elect
 ronic Arts Ensemble and students from “Visual Sounds: Graphic Notation in 
 Theory and Practice.” The ensembles will perform the world premiere of Mic
 hael Parsons'<em> Nevrazumitelny</em>\; the U.S. premieres of both Ronald 
 Kuivila's <em>A City of No Allusions </em>and Paula Matthusen's<em> in wor
 ds of one syllable</em>\; plus Mark Applebaum's <em>Medium</em>\; Anthony 
 Braxton's<em>Falling River</em>\; Pauline Oliveros' <em>New Sound Meditati
 on</em> (with laptop ensemble)\, <em>Sound Patterns</em>and<em> Lullaby fo
 r Daisy Pauline</em>\; and Christian Wolff's <em>For 1\, 2\, or 3 People <
 /em>and <em>Prose Collection (Play\, Sticks\, Song)</em>.<br />\n	Notation
  is a rich\, mutable\, and complex area of musical practice\, in which com
 position\, theorization\, writing\, and performance overlap and converge. 
 The “Time Stands Still” festival-conference brings together musicologists\
 , performers\, composers\, and theorists to consider the nature of notatio
 n in the early 21st century. “Time Stands Still” combines talks\, workshop
 s\, discussions\, and performances. Paper sessions and roundtable discussi
 ons will be held on both days\, all open to the general public.</p>\n<p st
 yle='margin-left:.25in\;'>\n	“Time Stands Still” is part of “Music & Publi
 c Life\,” a year-long campus and community-wide exploration\, celebrating 
 and studying the sounds\, words\, and spirit of music at the local\, natio
 nal\, and transnational levels through concerts\, workshops\, gatherings\,
