\n\n Jef frey Sichel\, stage director\, professor and scholar from the Shanghai The atre Academy\, has created an original\, spoken English-language adaptatio n of Tang Xianzu's 1598 Chinese Opera masterpiece “Peony Pavilion.” Studen ts and faculty of the Wesleyan Theater Department will mix traditional Kun qu opera music\, dance and stylization with contemporary American performa nce practice to capture the essence of this epic masterpiece of the Chines e Stage—a drama of love and death\, reality and illusion.
