Figure Sculpture - Jeremy Davis

Event Date/Time

Jan 24, 2013 to Apr 4, 2013
6:00 pm until 9:00 pm

Description

Figure Sculpture - Jeremy Davis

The focus of this course will emphasize an approach to the human form by way of three-dimensional modeling. Working from the live model, students will sculpt a 24-inch standing figure. Individual instruction will be given, as well as teaching demonstrations and illustrations, allowing students to acquire anatomical clarity and accurate proportions, form relationships in rhythm symmetry, and focus on characteristics of the specific model type. Attention to each students’ creative needs will be given. All levels welcome.

Please contact Jeremy to register for this course: (860) 834-1742 or email jdavisgallery@sbcglobal.net

Note: The pose for this class is the classic and beautiful pose executed by Michelangelo in the figure of "Dawn" in his Tomb for Lorenzo D'Medici. A group of students will be continuing this pose (from a previous class) in the hopes of bringing it to a higher level of completion. New students will naturally begin the pose from the armature along with the instructor. This is an excellent and rare opportunity to not only do a classic pose, but to be in a class with instruction in both beginning and finishing stages being taught simultaneously.

Instructor Bio: Originally from Texas, Jeremy pursued a self-led art program for several years while working in a bronze foundry. In 2001, he began studying at the Lyme Academy College of Fine Arts, and earned a bachelors degree. In January 2005, Jeremy won an Award of Distinction at the National Arts Club 29th Annual Student Exhibition in New York City. Upon graduation in May 2005, he was awarded Excellence in Sculpture by the Lyme Academy and received a fellowship at the Vermont Studio Center in Johnson, Vermont. Jeremy then competed in the National Sculpture Society's 2005 National Figure Competition and won the first-place prize, the Walter & Michael Lantz Prize, as well as the Roger T. Williams Prize for Excellence in Representational Sculpture and the Gloria Medal for Outstanding Body of Work. In June, 2009 Jeremy was named Runner-Up in the Art vs. Design Exhibition located at the New Museum, SoHo, New York. His work can be found in private collections around the country and has been shown publicly in New York, Boston, South Carolina, and Connecticut.
