Professor Behind Waterbury Comic Convention Studies Black Characters

Professor Behind Waterbury Comic Convention Studies Black Characters

Like most American children of the 1950s, William Foster III, liked comic books. They were cheap, they were readily available from any drug store or newsstand in his native Philadelphia, and they were—well, exciting and fun. He liked the plots, he liked the characters—but then it dawned on him: he never saw a face like his own.

High School Art Salon

April 8-15, 2014

Opening Reception

Tuesday, April 8, 6:30-8:00pm

Free and open to the public

Pelham Art Center is proud to continue its annual exhibition of exceptional student art in 2014 with the High School Art Salon. The exhibition will feature artwork by students in advanced art classes from four local high schools: Bronxville High School, Mount Vernon High School, New Rochelle High School, and Pelham Memorial High School. Advanced art classes, including Advanced Placement courses, are designed for upper level high school students who are interested in pursuing art with added intensity. Many are preparing art portfolios as part of their applications to college.

Comprising more than sixty works in a range of media, this exhibition captures the youthful energy and vision of a new generation of artists. For many of these talented students, this will be their first exhibition.  Pelham Art Center is delighted to offer a learning and career-building opportunity for them, and to bring public attention to these young, emerging artists.

High School Art Salon will be on view for one week, April 8-15, 2014. The public is invited to an opening reception on Tuesday, April 8, 6:30-8:00pm. Come meet the artists and talk to their teachers during this special, inter-school event. The opening reception and exhibition are free and open to the public.
