At The Barn Sale in Hamden, Volunteers Keep on Dealing

Perhaps the reason The Barn Sale has endured for a half-century is that there’s no other place quite like it. The prices are reasonable for such a wide array of items. Besides, customers can feel good about supporting a place that donates 50 percent of its proceeds to local charities such as the Beardsley Zoo in Bridgeport and the Community Soup Kitchen in New Haven.

New Luxury Guesthouse Tall Tales Sprouts up at Saybrook Point Inn & Spa

The original plan was for the new, six-room boutique “beach house” in Old Saybrook to be a bit more diminutive than the elegant Three Stories next door. But flood elevations kept rising, necessitating engineering changes that resulted in a taller-than-expected building.

High School Art Salon

April 8-15, 2014

Opening Reception

Tuesday, April 8, 6:30-8:00pm

Free and open to the public

Pelham Art Center is proud to continue its annual exhibition of exceptional student art in 2014 with the High School Art Salon. The exhibition will feature artwork by students in advanced art classes from four local high schools: Bronxville High School, Mount Vernon High School, New Rochelle High School, and Pelham Memorial High School. Advanced art classes, including Advanced Placement courses, are designed for upper level high school students who are interested in pursuing art with added intensity. Many are preparing art portfolios as part of their applications to college.

Comprising more than sixty works in a range of media, this exhibition captures the youthful energy and vision of a new generation of artists. For many of these talented students, this will be their first exhibition.  Pelham Art Center is delighted to offer a learning and career-building opportunity for them, and to bring public attention to these young, emerging artists.

High School Art Salon will be on view for one week, April 8-15, 2014. The public is invited to an opening reception on Tuesday, April 8, 6:30-8:00pm. Come meet the artists and talk to their teachers during this special, inter-school event. The opening reception and exhibition are free and open to the public.
