Portrait Painting Workshop with Chrisopher Zhang
Nov 9, 2013 to Nov 16, 2013
9:00 am until 4:00 pm
This event occurs weekly on Saturday.
The Lyme Art Association is pleased to welcome back, by popular demand, esteemed portrait artist and instructor Christopher Zhang! In this two-day workshop, students will work from a model, exploring the art of portrait painting. Each day will begin with a demonstration, and group instruction will follow. Individual attention will be provided throughout the class, and this workshop is open to all levels and mediums. If you haven’t yet had the opportunity to work with Christopher Zhang, now is your chance! New and returning students welcome.
Instructor Bio: Christopher graduated with a B.F.A from East China University, and went on to earn an M.F.A at Rhode Island College. In the United States, he studied Western art theories and many original master pieces from the Renaissance to modern ages. He was fascinated by Rembrandt's unique lighting and shading, Velazquez's fluent brushwork, Monet's and Renoir's brilliant coloring, and Ruben's and Delacroix's magnificent composition. This influence is apparent in the bright and delicately detailed quality of his paintings, as well as his great attention to detail, composition, and local colors. The new style generated a powerful visual effect; his work is greatly appreciated and widely collected. Christopher has served as a visiting professor at the University of Connecticut, Harvard University, numerous museums and art associations, and has had solo exhibitions throughout the United States.
