Emporium Gallery’s Swan Song Exhibition: So Long Peter Pan
Nineteen years ago, on June 17th 1994, the Emporium Gallery hosted an opening night reception for its very first art exhibition.
Creating a gallery within the Emporium was the inspiration of store’s staff. Less established artists -- as well as those who were considered avant garde -- could have an alternative venue to exhibit their work in Downtown Mystic. In turn, this heightened the popular eclecticism within the grand Victorian building.
Today, with the Emporium scheduled to close its doors for good later this summer, we have announced a swan song exhibition to mark the occasion. The title of So Long Peter Pan is inspired by a larger than life Peter Pan, a theater lobby prop from the 1950s’ Broadway hit, which now stands in the central hub at The Emporium.
An open call has been released as we seek out those artists from the past who have, at one time or another, exhibited at the Emporium Gallery.
So Long Peter Pan is scheduled to run from Thursday, June 27th through Monday, August 12th.
An Opening Reception will be held Thursday, June 27th, from 6 pm to 8 pm.
