The CONNsumer: Avoid the Pain of Returns By Knowing the Rules

In Connecticut, most local retailers offer an exchange or refund. But they don’t have to. The state allows businesses to establish whatever exchange and refund policy they like, as long as it’s posted conspicuously.

New Luxury Guesthouse Tall Tales Sprouts up at Saybrook Point Inn & Spa

The original plan was for the new, six-room boutique “beach house” in Old Saybrook to be a bit more diminutive than the elegant Three Stories next door. But flood elevations kept rising, necessitating engineering changes that resulted in a taller-than-expected building.

Terri Brodeur Breast Cancer Foundation Walk Across Southeastern CT

Event Date/Time

Oct 5, 2013

Description

Terri Brodeur Breast Cancer Foundation Walk Across Southeastern CT

Dream of a future without breast cancer? Take action by walking on October 5 in the 8th Annual Walk Across Southeastern CT – Support the Cause and Raise Funds for Breast Cancer Research!

It is estimated that there will be more than 3,000 cases of breast cancer diagnosed in CT in 2013 and that almost 500 will die from the disease. Death rates for breast cancer have steadily decreased in women since 1989 due to progress in earlier detection, improved treatment, and possibly decreased incidence as a result of declining use of hormone replacement therapy.

By walking in the Terri Brodeur Breast Cancer (TBBCF) Walk Across Southeastern CT you will increase funding of breast cancer research that leads to earlier detection, better treatments and ultimately prevention of this disease!  The Walk goal is to raise funds for research through walker fundraising commitments.  Youth walkers must raise $100 and choose any marathon walk option.  Adult walkers must raise $200 for a quarter marathon, $250 for a half marathon and $500 for a full marathon walk.  The Foundation commits that 100% of funds raised goes directly to breast cancer research! In seven years, TBBCF has funded over $2.4 M in breast cancer research!

TBBCF’s 8th annual Walk Across Southeastern CT is being held on October 5. There is a walk to suit everyone’s level of ability.  Registration is now open and the time to start training for your chosen marathon walk is approaching!  Walks include a quarter marathon (6.55 miles), a half marathon (13.1 miles) or our signature full marathon (26.2 miles). Opening ceremonies begin at 6:30 am at Saybrook Point, Old Saybrook, with feet on the pavement at 7:00 am. These full marathon walkers walk the scenic route along the shoreline through Old Saybrook, Old Lyme, and East Lyme ending in Waterford.  Half marathon walkers start at Capital Drive, East Lyme at 10:00 am and quarter marathon walkers start at the Niantic Baptist Church, Niantic at 1:00 pm.  All walks complete at Camp Harkness, Waterford, with closing ceremonies.

Team-up with friends, family or co-workers! Team-up to walk in honor or memory of someone special!  Enjoy the benefits of working as a team to meet the fundraising commitment and have fun while supporting the common cause.

There are Youth Walk Team options for 12-18 year olds. Gather 8 or more youth with a Youth Walk Coach and the Coach only pays registration with no fundraising requirement.  Or, gather 7 or fewer youth with an adult walker and the adult pays registration and meets the fundraising requirement.

Walkers are provided with training and fundraising support and the opportunity to meet others who come together for a common cause and purpose.  Walkers can make a difference in their lives and the lives of others. Challenge yourself...challenge your friends and family...there’s an option for everyone to participate!

To register to walk or volunteer, or to contribute to a registered walker, please visit www.tbbcf.org or call 860-245-0402.

TBBCF is a local non-profit committed to fighting breast cancer by donating 100% of gross fundraising dollars directly to breast cancer research.  Researchers from such organizations as Dana-Farber Cancer Institute, Memorial Sloan–Kettering Cancer Center, Harvard Medical School, the Roswell Park Cancer Institute and Cold Spring Harbor Laboratory have benefited from the funds raised by this walk.
