DR. LORENZO CERVANTES graduated cum laude from both Binghamton University and Downstate College of Medicine, where he was a member of Alpha Omega Alpha Medical Honor Society. He did his internship at Saint Barnabas Medical Center. He completed his residency in ophthalmology at the North Shore/Long Island Jewish Health System in New York and a fellowship in cornea, external disease, and refractive surgery at the Eye and Ear Institute of the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center.

Dr. Cervantes’s expertise is in the medical and surgical management of diseases of the cornea, including advanced corneal transplants, small incision and complex cataract surgery, repair of intraocular lenses, and refractive surgery, including LASIK. He is the first Connecticut surgeon to perform Descemet’s membrane endothelial keratoplasty (DMEK), a partial thickness cornea transplant that keeps most of the patient’s own cornea intact. Recovery is faster and the chances of rejection are lower. He also does meticulous cataract surgery, taking into consideration which intraocular lenses are right for each patient. “Everyone has different goals,” he says. “We help people try to meet them.”
