DR. JOHN MARA graduated from Saint Louis University School of Medicine. He did his residency in orthopedic surgery at UConn and completed a fellowship in hand surgery at Tufts New England Medical Center. He specializes in surgery of the hand and upper extremities, sports medicine and shoulder. He has performed more than 17,000 surgeries since 1980. He performs advanced arthroscopy of the shoulder for repair of rotator cuffs and instability due to arthritis. He does reconstructive surgery of the elbow and hand including carpal tunnel, trigger finger and implant surgery and treats athlete’s elbow and wrist arthritis. He offers nonsurgical options such as cortisone Injections for arthritis.
DR. ROBERT McALLISTER was a US navy surgical technologist for 6 years before graduating from the University of Connecticut school of medicine and orthopedic residency program. He completed an Adult Reconstruction fellowship at the Minneapolis Orthopedic and Arthritis Institute. During his 14 years in the Army reserve, he received the Bronze Star and combat medic award for service as commander of the 947th forward surgical team under Combined Joint Special Operations Task Force-Afghanistan. He is a founding member of and served as Co-director of The Connecticut Joint Replacement Institute. He is presently Regional Director of Operations of the Orthopedic Service line of Trinity Health of New England. Dr. McAllister specializes in total hip and knee replacement using Mako® robotic assistance.
DR. RANDALL RISINGER earned his medical degree from Wake Forest University School of Medicine. He did his internship and residency in orthopedic surgery at the University of Vermont. He completed a fellowship in orthopedic sports medicine and shoulder replacement at Rush-Presbyterian-St. Luke’s Medical Center in Chicago. As a sports medicine specialist, he performs advanced arthroscopic and open knee, shoulder, elbow and ankle surgery. He is head of the shoulder division at the Connecticut Joint Replacement Institute at St. Francis Hospital and Medical Center (Trinity Health Of New England). He also specializes in Mako® robotic partial knee replacement. Dr. Risinger values his relationships with patients, and he strives to fully explain both nonoperative and operative treatment options.
