About Nghiem, Anne T.

Dr. Anne T. Nghiem majored in biological sciences with minors in English and German at the University of Illinois at Chicago. She graduated from Tufts University School of Dental Medicine and completed a residency program in Advanced Education in General Dentistry at the University of Connecticut Health Center and a specialty program in Pediatric Dentistry at the University of Iowa College of Dentistry. She is licensed to practice dentistry in both Connecticut and Massachusetts.

Dr. Nghiem believes it really does take a village to raise a child. She believes in providing education for both parents and children about dental health and any issues children may have with their oral growth and development. “I am open and honest with parents and encourage them to be with their child in the treatment room to help them better understand evidence-based treatment options,” she says. “Communication with parents and patients is the key to fostering any positive changes.” Dr. Nghiem offers nitrous oxide for anxious patients, but she prefers to use her behavior modification skills whenever possible. “I need to be able to look into the best interests of my patients. I will do whatever I can to gain trust and cooperation,” she says, even singing and role playing for her young patients.

She welcomes children from infancy through teenage years, as well as children with special health care needs. She complies with the philosophy of the American Academy of Pediatric Dentistry and the American Academy of Pediatrics that a child’s first dental visit should occur within 6 months of the eruption of the first tooth and no later than his or her first birthday, and every six months after that. This is to emphasize prevention of dental disease, to help Dr. Nghiem establish individualized care for each child, and to encourage children to maintain a healthy smile.
