NEW CANAAN — After expanding their search for Jennifer Dulos to her parents’ property in Pound Ridge, N.Y., authorities were back in the Waveny Park area on Friday.
Police handed out flyers for about three hours in the area of Lapham Road behind Waveny Park where Dulos’ black Chevy Suburban was found last Friday night.
New Canaan Police Lt. Jason Ferraro said they hoped to find someone who may have seen something suspicious when Dulos disappeared last week.
A source close to the investigation said divers planned to search the nearby shallow pond in Waveny Park.
The source also told Hearst Connecticut Media that investigators found blood in Dulos’ rented Welles Lane home last Saturday.
However, Ferraro said police “will not discuss any evidence that has been recovered at this time during our investigation.”
Ferraro confirmed to Hearst Connecticut Media that the search of the Pound Ridge property owned by Dulos’ parents has concluded.
Ferraro said authorities have not classified the case as a homicide. A WFSB source said Thursday that law enforcement was treating the case as a homicide.
Ferraro said the investigation remains a missing person and criminal case.
“Investigators from the New Canaan Police Investigations Unit as well as the Connecticut State Police Western District Major Crime Squad continue to work in partnership on both the missing person case as well as the criminal case,” Ferraro’s statement said.
Ferraro said a body has not been recovered and no arrests have been made.
“We will not discuss any possible persons of interest/suspects as this investigation is active and ongoing,” he said.
Dulos, 50, was last seen dropping off her children at New Canaan Country School last Friday morning. Dulos was reported missing that night and her SUV was then found parked on the side of Lapham Road behind Waveny Park.
The park along with Dulos’ neighborhood have been the focus of police searches this week. The search expanded Thursday to the area near a home owned by Dulos’ parents in Pound Ridge, N.Y.
According to Pound Ridge property records, Jennifer Dulos’ late father, Hilliard Farber, is listed as the owner of 40 Mallard Lake Road, about a 15-minute drive north of her New Canaan home.
The Pound Ridge home is located in a heavily wooded area near Mallard Lake. Ferraro confirmed investigators searched the area on Thursday, but said “no additional information will be provided on that search.”
Jennifer Dulos has been involved in a two-year divorce case with her husband, Fotis Dulos. In court documents, she said she was afraid of her estranged husband and was fearful he would retaliate against her for seeking a divorce.
Jennifer Dulos’ mother, Gloria Farber, has been in her own legal battle with Fotis Dulos. Farber and her late husband’s estate have filed a lawsuit against Fotis Dulos, accusing him of failing to repay $1.7 million in loans he used to purchase properties and build homes.
Fotis Dulos requested on Wednesday for a judge to allow him to see his children.
A motion filed by his attorney, Michael J. Rose, said the children have been staying at Farber’s New York City apartment under the watch of an armed guard the family hired.
Fotis Dulos was turned away by the guard when he attempted to visit his children on Wednesday night, a police source told the New York Post.
A number listed for Fotis Dulos’ custom home building company, The Fore Group, is not accepting voicemails. His attorney has declined to comment.
While it appeared no one has been at his Farmington residence where he also operates his business, Fox 61 reported that Fotis Dulos called 911 on Wednesday when a reporter and cameraman approached his property. A responding officer asked the media crew to not return to the neighborhood.
The six-bedroom, 10,000-square-foot home is listed for sale at $4.35 million.
Two years ago, Jennifer Dulos abruptly left the Farmington home with her children and moved to New Canaan before filing for divorce the next day. Her sudden departure prompted Fotis Dulos to call 911, saying he was “worried about my wife and kids,” according to audio of the more than four-minute call obtained by the Hartford Courant.
The 911 call is referenced in the nearly 500 pages of divorce records. The records also mention how Fotis Dulos initially believed his wife left with the children for her parents’ home in Pound Ridge.
As part of the divorce proceedings, Jennifer Dulos filed for an emergency order for full custody that was denied in July 2017.
While the divorce is still in litigation, Jennifer Dulos has since been awarded sole physical custody of the children after a judge last year found Fotis Dulos to be an unhealthy influence on the children.
A status hearing in the divorce case that was scheduled for Wednesday at the Stamford courthouse was postponed. On Tuesday, a court-appointed guardian ad litem filed a motion for a hearing “regarding the safety of the children.” A date has not been set for the conference.
