Ah, December. It’s the season of giving and … mall fights apparently.
This week not one but at least three Connecticut malls were the scenes of brawls.
“Big fights” is how one police officer described the scene Thursday at the Connecticut Post Mall in Milford. There were reportedly several altercations at the mall, which closed three hours early as a result of the altercations.
Six juveniles and a Bridgeport man were arrested after a fight at the Westfield Trumbull mall Thursday night, when an officer spotted a fray between teens near the Target department store, according to Fox 61.
There were also reportedly fights on Thursday at the Westfarms Mall in Farmington.
Here are six more times fights broke out at Connecticut malls:
1. A holiday tradition in Milford
Police said at least 100 teens were involved, and the mall closed early, as it did this year.
2. 300 fighters, four arrests
Police reported to a fight involving as many as 300 youths, also on Dec. 27, 2018, at The Shoppes at Buckland Hills mall in Manchester.
There was the large brawl, but that wasn’t the end. “After the initial fight was reported, numerous other disturbances erupted around the mall interior and exterior,” police said, according to boston.com.
No injuries were reported and four of the teens who were allegedly involved were arrested.
3. Shots reported in Trumbull
Initial reports indicated that there had been shots fired on Dec. 31, 2017 at the Trumbull Mall, but police never confirmed that a weapon was used or even displayed.
At about 3 p.m., police were sent to the Macy’s department store at the mall. A 21-year-old male victim had been walking in the mall and followed into the store by two other males who approached him and began hitting him with their hands. A fight ensued and a display case in the store was knocked over, according to police.
The victim received minor injuries and was able to escape his assailants.
4. A holiday tradition in Manchester
That 208 fight in which hundreds of teens reportedly got into a brawl, wasn’t the first time hundreds of teens engaged in a mall fight at The Shoppes at Buckland Hills.
Manchester Police Captain Christopher Davis told Fox 61 that several hundred teens were involved in more than one altercation on the day after Christmas, 2016.
The fight began with about 10 teens, but police learned that similar fights had broken out at locations across the mall, so many that police needed help.
"Because it was such a chaotic situation with hundreds of people inside the mall, a request for mutual aid assistance was put out to surrounding jurisdictions," Davis told Fox 61.
5. Two more mall brawls
Manchester in March: It’s not a holiday time fight, but there were several youths involved in a series of disturbances at the Manchester mall in March of this year. Two people were arrested.
Teen attacked in Trumbull: Police said a teen was attacked and robbed at the Trumbull Mall in January of this year. The incident at the Target resulted in a melee and several teens were arrested.
